Preparing Camp – Processing Firewood – The Outdoor Gear Review
15 Feb 2015, Posted by Adventure Guide Staff in Gear News
The Outdoor Gear Review presents an afternoon in the woods with some of our favorite gear. The SP50, the Fiskars Axe, and the Sven Saw. We spend an afternoon…
Try a product like Wilson tennis racket wrap on the Fiskars. It works slick
on my machete handles!

Like your channel & your vids, been subscribed almost a year. One question
here though, much of the wood came off the ground and seemed rotted and/or
wet…this seems opposed to the edict that wood must be standing/leaning,
dead and dry.(???)
Jorden McDougall
your saw is binding because the way you prop it up..

I’d love to reply to some of these comments but due to the ‘awesome’

I just came across your channel and must say I love the entire thing! From
the military surplus to the more expensive stuff, the gear talk is awesome.
You also take great care to capture quality video.
I started off as a youngster using military surplus gear for my hiking and
camping, and its hard to beat for longevity. Not always the best at it, but
it gets the job done for a heck of a price.
Wish I still had the knees and hips to be able to hike and camp like you
do, so until they heal I will live vicarisouly through your videos. Thanks
for the great stuff!

I have a Fiskars felling axe, which tbh, is a little too long for prepping
wood, that X15 looks more manageable. Thing is, I also have a hatchet, and
my other half will think I’m prepping for a Zombie Apocalypse if I go buy
another axe, so I might just have to put up with what I have 🙂 On
slippery grips, I’ve had some success recycling old bicycle inner tubes,
not sure you could stretch once over your axe handle though, might be a bit
of a fight, but for larger items I split them, and use double sided tape,
and apply rubberised patches. I’ve rubberised my torches, and my camera
that way. Anyway, thanks for the vid, it’s got me in the mood for woodland
adventures, and as luck would have it, my other half and our four dogs are
off to spend a long weekend in a log cabin in the woods, in the North
Yorkshire Moors National Park, so I’ll see you on the flipside too!

Very nice job. I’m glad your channel is getting bigger. What about visiting
some locations outside of USA? Do you think about it? I have some very cool
spots that I go to. Greetings from Serbia!!!

I wonder if baseball bat tape or even several long cut ranger bands would
work for your Axe handle. Good video man!
